Martha R. Barhorst, 65

Martha R. Barhorst, 65, of 46 E. Park St., Fort Loramie, died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at IU Simon Cancer Center in Indianapolis, Ind.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1947, in Greenville, to Norbert and Amelia (DeLoye) Heckman, and they preceded her in death.

On Nov. 15, 1969, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Osgood, she married Jerome U. Barhorst, and he survives in Fort Loramie.

She is also survived by a son and a daughter, Eric P. and Betsy (Kamin) Barhorst of Fort Loramie and Teresa R. and Doug Grieshop of Osgood; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Daniel and Lillian Barhorst and Haylie and Karlie Grieshop; her siblings, Rita (Steve) Monnin of Botkins, John (Maruja) Heckman of Clifton, Va., Jim (Adele) Heckman of Fort Recovery, Ann (Mike) Kreitzer of Arcanum, Mary (Jerry) Siegrist of Sidney, Margie (Don) Eilerman of Fort Loramie, Joe (Joyce) Heckman of Monroe, N.J., Bill (Mary Beth) Heckman of Yorkshire, Kathy (John) Geise of Sidney and David (Karen) Heckman of Minster; her stepbrother-in-law, Joe (Joan) Maier in Houston.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Lynn; her in-laws, Paul and Florence Barhorst; a sister, Alice Mae Heckman; a brother-in-law, Daniel Barhorst. 

She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Ann Sodality, Apostleship of Prayer, Shelby County Right to Life and a rosary leader for St. Michael Church. She graduated from Minster High School in 1965.

She worked at Copeland Corporation before she started a family, then she was a stay-at-home mother and child care provider in her home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Shoup and the Rev. Vincent Hoying officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Michael Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster.  

In lieu of flowers, the family wants donations to be made to The Elizabeth New Life Center, to Shelby County Right to Life, to EWTN or to Radio Maria.
