Marjorie L. Wellman, 89, of New Knoxville, and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 3:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Otterbein St. Marys.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1924, in New Knoxville, the daughter of Raymond and Lenora (Doenges) Henkener.
She married Howard “Jack” Wellman on June 1, 1946, and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Ann Henkener of Columbus; Mary (Paul) Esposito of Cincinnati; Barbara (Joe) Malsom of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Randy (Sandy) Henkener of St. Marys; Mark (Pat) Wellman of New Knoxville; Ned (Lisa) Wellman of Marysville; Mary (Keith) Howe of Gahanna; Jane (Zane) Baugman of Troy; by a sister-in-law, Helen Wellman of New Knoxville.
She is also survived by Russell Kuck of New Knoxville, who was like a son to Marge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, David Wellman, and by her husband, Jack Wellman.
Her sister-in-law, Marcile Henkener, died the same day as Marge, and the family will hold joint calling hours and funeral services for both women.
Marge graduated from New Knoxville High School and was a life-long member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville. She assisted her husband in the operation of the family farm.
Marge was a very giving and outgoing person, helping many people along the way. Those around her did not remain strangers for long. She was upbeat and positive, often offering her thoughts and encouragement. Family was always at the top of her list, and she hosted many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Marge enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends and relatives. She had been an avid bowler, was active in the New Knoxville Garden Club, and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Her strong faith in the Lord was life-long. She was a big New Knoxville Ranger basketball fan and enjoyed going to the games. Otterbein St. Marys became her final home and she had good things to say about her stay and the wonderful staff who cared for her.
Combined funeral rites for Marge and her sister-in-law Marcile Henkener will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxvillle, the Rev. Dr. David Williams officiant.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Heritage Room of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where memorial gifts may be given to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the church.
Friends may also call one hour prior to the funeral rites on Wednesday.
