Margaret M. Yahl, 102, formerly of 14780 Ohio 66 North in St. Marys, died at 5:20 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Celina Manor Nursing Home.
She was born on June 26, 1911, in Celina, to Carl and Freda (Clott) Hoenie.
On Sept. 19, 1940, at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys, she married Franklin Yahl, who died on Dec. 12, 1983.
She is survived by two sons, John (Janet Lane) Yahl of St. Marys and Edward (Linda) Yahl of St. Marys; six grandchildren, Anna (Kenneth) McCusker of New Rochelle, N.Y.; Sara (Brian) Riggenbach of Huntersville, N.C.; Marc (Jennifer) Yahl of San Diego, Calif.; Heidi Yahl of Spencerville; Ryan (Brandy) Yahl of Anna and Jeffrey (Paula) Yahl of St. Marys; eight great-grandchildren, Deborah Yahl; Caleb Yahl; Andrew Robinson; Olivia McCuskey; Maxwell Riggenbach; Nathan McCuskey; Elijah Riggenbach and Eliza Yahl and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Carter Ballweg and Cayden Ballweg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Freda Hoenie, husband Franklin Yahl, daughter-in-law Susan Yahl, sister Bernice Vermillion and two brothers, Robert Hoenie and William Hoenie.
She was a homemaker and farm wife. In addition, she sold fresh eggs and sweet potato plants for many years.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its Faith Circle, Dorcas Society (past president) and church funeral dinner committee and the Pleasant Hour Club.
Faith, family and hard work were the cornerstones of her life. She volunteered countless hours to her church. Over the years, she visited and spread cheer to many people confined to their homes, hospitals and nursing homes.
Rites are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. Bill Maki officiating.
Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Miller – Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St. Chapel, in St. Marys.
