Marcile J. Henkener, 91
Marcile J. Henkener, 91, of New Knoxville, passed away on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Friendship Village of Dublin. She had resided in Dublin for the last 12 years.
Born on May 19, 1922, on a farm near Bluffton, she was the daughter of the late Ezra Amstutz and Etta (Davidson) Amstutz.
Marcile graduated from Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and worked as a registered nurse. Her professional career included caring for wounded servicemen in Petoskey, Mich. during World War II.
On June 15, 1947, she married Roger J. Henkener, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were siblings Ruth Ayers, Ray Amstutz, and Fred Amstutz. She is survived by daughters Ann Henkener of Columbus; Barbara (Joe) Malsom of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Mary Henkener (Paul Esposito) of Cincinnati.
She had four grandchildren:, Margaret Stanaway (Dan), Patrick Malsom (Andrea), Nora Esposito, and Julia Esposito. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Amstutz, a niece and seven nephews.
Marcile was an accomplished and prolific quilter. Her family and many others continue to enjoy these beautiful legacies of her Mennonite heritage. She was a devoted volunteer at New Knoxville High School and First United Church.
Visitation and funeral services will be held jointly with her sister-in-law, Marjorie Wellman, who passed away on the same day.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First United Church, with burial to follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery.
