50 Years Ago This Week – 1963
Following their unblemished campaign in the Western Buckeye League’s Western Division in 1963, the St. Marys Roughriders began their best-of-three game series with a 3-2 victory over the Eastern Division winners, the Wapakoneta Redskins.  The Roughriders slipped behind 2-0 in the third, but cut their deficit in half with a run in the top of the fourth when Bill Rogers drilled a triple before he was plated by a fly ball by Tom Hollman.  The ‘Riders stayed down 2-1 heading into the sixth inning, but Tim O’Reilly got things underway with a single.  He then swiped second and advanced to third on a passed ball just as Hollman drew a walk and stole second.  With two runners on, George Peterson lined one past the infield, and drove in what eventually became the tying and winning runs.  In the victory, Dave Williams allowed just four hits as he improved to 8-0 on the season, while O’Reilly and Weadock spearheaded the offensive attack for the Blue and Gold with two hits apiece.
25 Years Ago This Week – 1988
This week in 1988, the Class A district track and field meet unfolded in Minster with the Wildcat boys and girls each taking top spots.  Although the girls took only three first place finishes – Leslie Moorman in the 300-meter hurdles, as well as the 400- and mile relays – it was enough to total 96 points, which bettered second place Marion Local by 30 counters.  Other local first place finishes for the girls included New Knoxville’s Shannon Egbert in the long jump, New Bremen’s Julie Rollins in the mile and two-mile runs, as well as New Bremen’s two-mile relay team.  The Cardinals finished fifth overall as a team, while the Rangers ended up in 12th.  On the boy’s end, David Huecker led the Wildcats with victories in the long jump and 300-meter hurdles, while Dane Schubert added gold medals in the mile and two-mile runs.  Joining them with first-place landings were Jay Huelsman in the in the discus and Travis Langenkamp in the 800-meter run in school-record time.  The Wildcats also earned victories in the 400- and 1600-meter relays, helping them to their 60-point victory over runners-up Spencerville.

10 Years Ago This Week – 2003
This week in 2003, the Minster Wildcats baseball team raised their first district championship trophy since 1996 when they knocked off the Crestview Knights in Coldwater by a final of 8-2.  The Orange and Black scored their initial run in the third inning before piling on four in the fourth and three more in the sixth frame to seal the win that pushed them to 17-7 on the season.  Although Minster collected only two base hits in the contest, their batters drew ten base-on-balls, including Tom Kuhn who walked four times and led the Wildcats with three runs scored.
