Lewis H. Metzger, 86

Lewis H. Metzger, 86, of Spencerville, died on Friday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic following complications of surgery on Nov. 4.

He was born on April 6, 1925, in Spencerville, to Frederick and Carrie Stonehill Metzger, and they preceded him in death.

On June 21, 1947, he married LaDonna E. Good, and she survives him.

He is also survived by four children, Frederick L. “Fred” (Terri) Metzger of Spencerville, Gary L. (Margo) Metzger of St. Marys, Randall K. “Randy” (Kim) Metzger of Spencerville and Penny R. (Jim) Gerdeman of Fort Jennings; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister; a sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by a sister; a brother.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Rhineland and central Europe as a tank commander in World War II.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with the Rev. David W. Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Spencerville Cemetery, with military rites by the Spencerville Veterans.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spencerville Veterans Memorial Park Fund.
