Leona A. Schultz, 92

Leona A. Schultz, 92, formerly of 1814 Winston Drive, St. Marys, died at 1:35 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at St. Marys Living Center.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1918, in Willowdell, to Arthur and Ida (Hehmyer) Hecht, and they preceded her in death.

On Nov. 12, 1939, she married Paul B. Schultz, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 1991.

She is survived by a son, Wendell (Delores) Schultz of St. Marys; a daughter, Jeannette (Robert) Hare of Celina; five grandchildren, Malinda (Kevin) Bubp, Christine Hare, Gregory (Christina) Hare, Douglas Hare and Wendee (Jesse) Bertke; eight great-grandchildren, Heather Philpot, Scott Dammeyer, Megan Dammeyer, Cole Bertke, Carter Bertke, Sean Hare, Caleb Bertke and Jackson Hare; a sister, Esther Hecht  of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Ernest Burkhart of Springboro; a sister-in-law, Imogene Hecht of St. Marys.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Hecht and Floyd Hecht; a sister, Marcella Burkhart.

She was a 1936 graduate of the former Neptune High School.

She was a homemaker and bus driver for Moulton Local School District. She had also been co-owner of the former S & H Orange Barn in Celina for many years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moulton, where she was active in the Lutheran Church Women and attended the adult Sunday school class. She had also belonged to the Rural Women’s Club in Auglaize County.

Quilting was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends at both Auglaize County Council on Aging and Mercer County Council on Aging.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moulton, with the Rev. Joy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West), St. Marys and from 9 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church Parsonage Fund or to the Grand Lake Hospice program.
