NEW BREMEN — Area residents can earn some extra cash this weekend and help a local organization by selling their old, unwanted jewelry.
The New Bremen American Legion Auxiliary will host a gold sale from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the New Bremen American Legion, located at 6458 State Route 66. Connie Voss of Voss Gold Buying will be on hand to test and weigh the gold. Organizer Dot Schwartz said sellers can bring any kind of gold — yellow, white or rose — or platinum jewelry for cash.
“If you have one earring, you can bring that or an old class ring,” she said of what sellers can bring to the sale, noting that broken jewelry will also be accepted and some stones can be removed from jewelry.
Gold plated or gold filled items, she noted, will not be purchased, however, Schwartz encouraged anyone that was not sure about an item to bring it in to have it checked.
“If you’re not sure about something, just bring it in and Connie (Voss) and her assistant would be happy to tell you,” she said.
She added that if anyone was interested in knowing the value of an old family piece, Voss can also examine it.
“If you just want to know the value of an item, bring it in and they can tell you what it’s worth,” Schwartz said.
Schwartz said the New Bremen American Legion Auxiliary decided to host the gold sale after a successful sale late last year.
“We had one in November and we did very well,” Schwartz said.
The auxiliary will earn a percentage of each sale, she said.
“The auxiliary earns 10 percent,” Schwartz said. “So, if you are paid $100, the auxiliary earns $10.”
She noted that there is no cost to the seller.
“The sellers loose nothing, so it’s really a win-win situation,” Schwartz said.
Sellers must be at least 18-years-old and be able to provide a valid driver’s license or identification and date of birth.
