Lee R. Deerhake, 76, of 10703 State Route 29, New Knoxville, died on Monday Aug. 29, 2011, at Stein Hospice Center in Sandusky.
He was born on March 11, 1935, in New Knoxville, to LeRoy and Laura (Vordermark) Deerhake, and they preceded him in death.
He is survived by four brothers, Reuben (Pauline) Deerhake of Sun City West, Ariz., the Rev. Marvin (Mary) Deerhake of Bicknell, Ind., Robert (Sandy) Deerhake of New Knoxville and Gene (Mary) Deerhake of Marblehead; a companion, Dorris Holleman of New Knoxville; numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee was a 1953 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He retired as a heavy equipment operator-transporter. Lee was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville and Eagles Lodge Aerie 767 in St. Marys.
Lee also enjoyed fishing and raising horses and was an avid follower of the Cincinnati Reds. He attended spring training sessions in Florida for a number of years. Restoring antique automobiles was also of great interest to him.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, with the Rev. Dr. David Williams and the Rev. Marvin Deerhake officiating. Mr. Deerhake chose to participate in the Anatomical Gift Program of The Ohio State University. His remains will be buried privately at a later date in the Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in New Knoxville.
Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Radio Fund at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, to the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department in Marblehead or to Stein Hospice Center in Sandusky.
