Laurie R. Shaner, 86

Laurie R. Shaner, 86, of Celina, died on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at the Gardens of Celina, of natural causes.

She was born on May 14, 1927, in New Bremen, to parents Alvin and Laura (Bertke) Dicke.

On Feb. 16, 1952, she married Vilas Leon Shaner, who survives.

She is also survived by a daughter, Gwen (David) Howell of Celina; two sons, Grady (Diane) Shaner of St. Marys and Kent (Karen) Shaner of Maria Stein; two brothers, Ralph and Wilton Dicke; by grandchildren Leah (Curt) Cramer, Derek (Lacy) Howell, Grant (Stephanie) Shaner, Marcy Shaner, Kyle Shaner and Kristi Shaner; five great-grandchildren.

She was a graduate of New Bremen High School in 1945. She worked at Celina Insurance Group, at Celina West Elementary in the cafeteria, at Celina Lumber Company, Crons Tire and Supply and at the Mercer County Treasurer's Office.

She and her husband, Leon, were caretakers for the Mercer County 4-H camp for 20 years. They were instrumental in building and running the Padlock Inn Warehouse in St. Marys.

She enjoyed quilting and playing cards with friends and family. In recent years, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in different activities.

She was a long time member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina.

Services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina, the Rev. Matt Reynolds officiating.

Burial will take place at Mercer Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the State of the Heart Hospice or to St. Pauls United Methodist Church.
