NEW BREMEN — Area business professionals met for a luncheon Tuesday afternoon to recognize one of their own.
During the New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation’s annual luncheon, Stan Kuenning received the CIC’s 2012 Excellence in Business award.
CIC President Chris Fyock presented the award to Kuenning, who started what is now Western Ohio True Value Hardware.
“The Excellence in Business award recognizes a local businessperson who has shown a dedicated interest in the community through participation and leadership in New Bremen and has also represented New Bremen in a positive and a professional manner through business and philanthropic activities conducted in New Bremen and beyond,” Fyock said. “The members of the New Bremen CIC would like to recognize Stan Kuenning as the 2012 recipient of the Excellence in Business award. Stan and Donna Mae Kuenning are the first-generation owners of Western Ohio True Value, which is now under second and third generation operations serving in New Bremen, Minster and St. Henry communities.”
Fyock noted Kuenning began work at New Bremen Hardware and Supply — out of which Western Ohio True Value was developed — at the age of 11. She went through the history of the store — when it transitioned to Western Ohio Hardware then to Western Ohio True Value, including the transition to its current facility in New Bremen after being two locations in New Bremen and Minster.
Fyock also noted Kuenning’s community involvement — including being one of the founding members of the Rotary Club, as well as a contributer to the forming of the New Bremen High School football program and as a volunteer fireman.
“Stan is the man who never says no to anything, and that contributes to the betterment of the New Bremen community,” Fyock said. “In appreciation to his commitment to excellence in both his business and personal life, the New Bremen Community Improvement Corporation is pleased to present the 2012 Excellence in Business award to Stan Kuenning.”
Kuenning accepted the award from Fyock with his family members present.
“When our honorable mayor Jeff called a number of weeks ago and he said that I had been nominated for this award, I was quite surprised,” Kuenning told the crowd gathered at the New Bremen Senior Citizens. “I had no idea, I had never even thought about it. However, I am very very proud to accept this honor and having my picture associated with previous nominees Mr. Dicke and Mr. Schwieterman, who are both good friends and good customers.”
Kuenning then shared multiple stories about his experience working in the hardware store since a young age.
Previously during the luncheon, New Bremen Economic Development Director Angela Hamberg noted the village’s development highlights of 2011 and noted the importance of family businesses in New Bremen.
