Kids Take Over GLSM

ST. MARYS — Children at Grand Lake St. Marys were jumping, dodging, racing and sliding through obstacle courses Saturday afternoon during a day of campground activities.

The Grand Lake VIP Association held its second annual Kids Day at Grand Lake St. Marys State Park Saturday, showcasing the fun that can be found at the campground. The event featured a moonwalk and an inflatable obstacle course, a variety of games, including corn hole, hillbilly golf, a toilet toss and washer toss and an outdoor movie at night.

“This evening, we’ll be having a movie and we do have some popcorn for the campers,” Doris Dawson, of Grand Lake VIP Association, said, noting all the activities were free for the campers.

After expending their energy playing on the inflatables and playing games, attendees could re-energize with a cake from the cake wheel or a selection of snacks and drinks from the concession stand.

Dawson said Saturday’s Kids Day was the second of its kind.

“We started it last year, and it was such a great success,” she said.

The Grand Lake VIP Association decided to hold Kids Day at Grand Lake St. Marys to show children how much fun they can have at a campground.

“We wanted to have a kids day to get more campers in and to see the kids have fun,” she said. “It’s all about the kids.”

Dawson said she was grateful for the pleasant, sunny weather and better lake conditions.

“This year the water is looking much, much better,” she said, noting she is hoping to see more campers come to the lake as conditions improve. “The weather has been nice, too.”
