It was hot.

There was even a lightning delay that lasted a little past one hour.

Yet here she is, Kelly Wilker, in her second straight appearance at the Division II regional track and field meet.

This time, she's moving on.

The Roughriders' junior long distance runner is going to Jeese Owens Memorial Stadium next week in the 3200-meter run after finishing as a runner-up in the regional meet in Dayton on Saturday.

She trailed only Alter's Abby Nichols with her qualifying time of 11:28.94.

Wilker, who also runs the 1600-meter run, but personally took herself off the one-mile to remain fresh for the two-mile run.

That idea worked out for her as she takes her talent to Columbus next week.

Read the full story about Wilker's performance on Saturday in Tuesday's edition of The Evening Leader.
