Karl P. Kohler Jr., 89, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at the Wapakoneta Manor.  

He was born on Nov. 2, 1921, in Columbus, to Karl P. and Mary Nelle (Chiesa) Kohler, and they preceded him in death.  

On Sept. 1, 1950, he married Sue Carole Spees, and she survives in Wapakoneta.

He is also survived by two sons, Kevin S. “Coach” (Carla) Kohler of Wapakoneta, Kim E. (Lisa) Kohler of Chelsea, Ala.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

He joined the 136th F.A. Medical Detachment of the Ohio National Guard 37thDivision in July 1940 and spent 10.5 months in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. He was commissioned as second lieutenant with the U.S. Army Air Corps in May 1943.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Matthew Lee officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta.
