Joe Hudson, 75

August 30, 2013

Joe Hudson, 75, formerly of St. Marys passed away at 9 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2013 at Shawnee Manor in Lima.

His death was related to complications of a fall on Aug. 26, as he became increasingly weakened from advanced Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and congestive heart failure. Joe had been in failing health since December 2012 and was becoming seriously ill in June.

Joe was born on Aug. 31, 1937 to Fay “Slim” and Corinne Hudson. He was married to the late Shirley Rieger Hudson with whom he shared two children, JoAnn (Ron) Kortemeyer, of Rapid City, S.D. and Libby (Hudson) Pickering of Lima; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He later was united in marriage with the late Deborah Weeks Hudson with whom he shared a son, Joey Hudson, of Los Angeles, Calif., and two grandchildren. Joe also considered his three stepchildren as his own, Jamie (Leigh Anne) Smith, Jayson (Regina) Smith and Julie (Rich) Russell, and six step grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Spray and a brother, John Hudson.

Joe was a 1955 graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys, and served in the United States Army from 1955-1957.

Joe was a very hard working man and often held many jobs at the same time. He worked for McKirnan Brothers Inc., Celina and was the co-owner of a popular, local pizza and drive-through carryout, BJ’s Drive-Thru in St. Marys. He later worked for a magazine merchandising company in Indianapolis for many years until he retired in November 2012. Joe enjoyed coffee, cigarettes, chocolate ice cream, having the sun on his head and watching TV with westerns and NCIS among his favorites.

Joe did not wish for a traditional viewing or service, but a small, private gathering was held by family and close friends at noon Friday.

His ashes will be laid to rest with his late wife, Deborah Hudson, in Indianapolis.
