Joan H. Sunderman, 81, of Hilliard, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013.
Joan was born in New Bremen and graduated from New Bremen High School, class of 1949. She worked as a secretary at both New Bremen High School and Ohio Dominican University. Joan fell in love with the late Duane Sunderman and the two were married in 1953 and began their lives together. Joan was a graceful lady who loved to listen, help and care for others. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where she helped with many organizations throughout the years and met wonderful friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Duane Sunderman; father, Theodore Hoffman; mother and stepfather, Alma and Gaylord Heinfeld; daughter-in-law, Lynn Cuccaro Sunderman; and niece Brenda Dillon Davis.
She is survived by a daughter, Christine (Jeff) Boruvka, sons David D. Sunderman and Richard G. (Mary) Sunderman; sister-in-law, Betty (Jim) Dillon; grandchildren, Katie (Chris) Buckholtz, Elise Boruvka, Holly Sunderman, Michelle Sunderman, Paul Hamlin, and Mary Grace Hamlin; niece Debbie (Paul) Yeoman; and nephew John Dillon. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the family will receive friends from noon until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Covenant Presbyterian Church permanent funds ministry.
