Jean L. Smith, 91

Jean L. Smith, 91, of 11121 Circle Drive, St. Marys, died at 10 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community.

She was born on Dec. 20, 1922, in St. Marys, the daughter of John and Lucy (Coil) Beale.

She married Darell S. Smith on Nov. 13, 1944, in San Francisco, and he preceded her in death on June 23, 2009.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven (Nancy) Smith of Springfield; Thomas Smith of Celina; by two grandchildren, Laura (John) Whitmarsh of Redding, Calif.; Jason (Becca) Smith of Springfield; by seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Darell Smith, a daughter-in-law, Judy Smith, a granddaughter, Tami Bryum and by her siblings, Eunice Whetstone, Elmer Beale, Richard Beale, Bobbi Hickernell and Mary Axe.

Jean was a 1940 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. She served in the United States Navy WAVES during World War II.

She was a homemaker and had volunteered at the Valley Nursing Home in St. Marys for many years. She was a charter member of the Living Hope Assembly of God in St. Marys.

Funeral rites will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, St. Marys, the Rev. Rick Scheer, officiant.

Burial rites will be held at New Salem Cemetery near Monticello.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to either Living Hope Assembly of God Church or Agape Ministries in St. Marys.
