James L. “Jim” Moore, 81

James L. “Jim” Moore, 81, of 202 S. Beech St., St. Marys, died at 2:42 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 18, 1932, in Allen County, the son of John H. and Thelma R. (Sawmiller) Moore.

He married Ramona F. Ball on July 7, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2010.

He is survived by his five children, Cheryl (Dennis) Donovan of St. Marys; Jean Moore (and Virgil Kahlig) of Portland, Ind.; Candace (Richard) Darnell of Smyrna, Tenn.; Jim Moore (and Christine Heitkamp) of St. Marys and Heather (Shawn) Frese of Lima.

He is survived by his 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He is survived by three sisters, Mary Driver of Beaverdam, Betty (Gene) Rutter of Allentown and Jean Ann (George) Obradovich of Toledo.

He was preceded by his parents, wife, three brothers, John, Robert and Gene Moore and by one sister, Lois Evans.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from New Idea Corporation. He enjoyed doing carpentry work, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, going to auctions and traveling.

Funeral rites will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 W. High St., St. Marys, the Rev. Dr. David Williams, officiant.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, with military honors offered by American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
