James A. Bernhold, 67, of 252 S. Hanover St., Minster, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born on Oct. 31, 1946, in Minster, to the late Maurice and Elizabeth (Westerheide) Bernhold. He married Catherine Byron on Nov. 26, 1971, and she survives in Minster.
He is also survived by son Christopher Bernhold of Minster and daughter Katie and Jaime Murphy of Mechanicsburg, Penn.; grandchildren James; Harper and Larkin; brother Rolly and Mary Bernhold of Minster; and sister Barbara and Don Bollheimer of Minster.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster. He graduated from Minster, High School in 1964, the University of Detroit in 1968 with a B.S. and The University of Detroit Law School in 1971 and was a four-year member of the St. Francis Club.
He was first employed by Gould, Bailey, Farquahar and Green in Dayton, then at Kenneth Bailey and finally a sole practioner in Minster.
He was a former member of the St. Augustine Cemetery Board and former President of the Parish Council.
He was a member and past president of the Minster Civic Association, former board member of the Minster Boy Scouts and instructor at Merit Badge College for the past two years.
He was a member at Arrowhead Golf Course, a member of the Miami Erie Canal Corridor Association, a member, chapter photographer and membership director of Miami Shawnee Chapter Harley Owners Group. He was a former member of the Victors Club at the University of Michigan and of the Shivas Irons Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Augustine Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
