Irene P. Sommer, 84

Irene P. Sommer, 84, of East Fourth Street, Minster, died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Minster. She had been a resident there for 13 years.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1927, in Coldwater, to William and Anna Schoenlein, and they preceded her in death.

On Oct. 19, 1946, in Minster, she married Fred F. Sommer, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1996.

She is survived by her children, Perry and Nancy Sommer of Rochelle, Ill., Anne and Patrick Meyer of Botkins and Fred Jr. and Sherry Sommer of Minster; a son-in-law, Dan Addington of Beavercreek; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Addington; a son, Kenneth Sommer; three grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Augustine Church in Minster, the FOE 1391 Auxiliary and the Minster American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and golfer. She retired from Copeland Corp. of Sidney in 1983.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Augustine Church, with the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Manor Activity Fund.
