Interviews To Start For St. Marys SSD
ST. MARYS — Members of a city development group approved a measure to pledge their financial support to the future of Grand Lake St. Marys.
During their Monday meeting, members of the St. Marys Community Improvement Corporation approved a contribution of up to $5,000 to help cover expenses associated with the creation of the new lake manager position. The Grand Lake St. Marys Restoration Commission is in the process of searching for a person to handle much of the responsibility of managing the projects related to the battle to help heal Grand Lake St. Marys. The state has dedicated $60,000 a year for three years to help cover the person’s salary while local entities, including St. Marys, Celina and Auglaize and Mercer counties, are contributing to help cover health benefits and other expenses. CIC President Kraig Noble said the city of Celina agreed to add the new position to its books for the person can receive health benefits. Celina would then be reimbursed for the total cost.
“They want the local governments to help, too,” Noble said. “That $5,000 would help pay for that person’s salary and benefits. It would go to Celina and they would apply that.”
St. Marys Mayor Pat McGowan said he has narrowed down the search for the new safety-service director to a list of five candidates. Interviews are scheduled to start later this week.
“We have 12 resumes in for the safety-service director,” McGowan said. “Two will come in on Thursday, two will come on Friday and (one) on Monday.”
For the vacant development manager position, McGowan has received 28 resumes. He noted he expected to start the interview process for that position in two to three weeks.
“We want to get the safety-service director hired because there may be an instance of where they have to give notice and we need to get people in,” McGowan said. “One thing we are excited about is everyone who has seen the resumes, they are excellent. On paper, they look very good. The 12 we are talking about, (five) of those meet the qualifications, as advertised, right down the line — that’s important. It’s coming together nicely.”
In other business, CIC members:
• Heard an update from Sandy Matthews-Gerdeman regarding banners for downtown St. Marys. The banners, which are blue and gold, are first being offered to downtown businesses with future plans to expand to other areas of the city. Matthews-Gerdeman said she needs 25 businesses to commit to the banners before placing an order at a discounted rate. Each banner, which costs $250, also has room for the business’ name and logo in full color.
• Tentatively set their annual meeting for March 27 at the St. Marys Eagles Club.
The next meeting of the St. Marys CIC is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the city building located along East Spring Street.
