10 Years Ago This Week – 2002
With spring sports season a week from taking off, it was a light week for local sports happenings other than the selection for the All-Western Buckeye League squads for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. Head coach Bruce Brown headlined the girl selections as the 2002 WBL Coach of the Year. He was joined with high honors by first teamer Liz Krugh, who also earned Co-Player of the Year honors along with Elida’s Marchion Hinton. Krissy Haines was also named to the WBL’s first team, while teammate Amanda Clark earned honorable mention. The boys’ side of the team was light as far as Roughriders were concerned, but Matt Steinke received special mention status with Tyler Sampson grabbing a spot on the honorable mention list.
