Herbert “Herb” J. Boerger, 100

Herbert “Herb” J. Boerger, 100, of McCartyville, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Elmwood of New Bremen.

He was born on June 5, 1912, in Fort Loramie, to Frank and Emma (Ernst) Boerger, and they preceded him in death.

On Feb. 4, 1941, in Minster, he married Alma Schmiesing, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2001.

He is survived by his children, Carol (John) Bucklew of Dayton, Velma Matuszewski of Columbus, Grace (Bob) Burke of North Fort Myers, Fla., Michael (Patricia) Boerger of Sidney and Denise (Kevin) Greve of Evergreen, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four siblings; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by a son-in-law; five brothers; four sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in McCartyville, with the Rev. John Tonkin officiating and Deacon John Schmiesing assisting. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
