Helen Bolinger Spoon, 84, of Van Wert, died at 1:59 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center in Van Wert.
She was born on July 25, 1928, in Van Wert County to parents Frank Bolinger and Mabel (Chase), who preceded her in death.
On Dec. 27, 1946, she married Jerry F. Spoon at First United Methodist Church in Van Wert.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Wayne) Knodel Taylor of Van Wert; a sister, Betty (Noel) Moore of Bradenton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Knodel of Lima, Heidi (Rich) Arney of Van Wert and Justin “J.J.” Knodel of Asheville, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Alexa Knodel and Alaina Arney; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Bolinger of Van Wert; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Bolinger.
She had worked at the Bon-Ton in Van Wert, then owned and operated with her husband the Goodyear Shoe Store in St. Marys, from 1953 to 1995. Then they retired and moved to Van Wert.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the Dorcus Women’s Group.
She graduated from Van Wert High School in 1946. Helen loved her husband, daughter and grandchildren and was dedicated to serving each of them.
She enjoyed reading and cooking and was always friendly.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Van Wert, the Rev. William C. Haggis II officiating.
Burial will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cowan and Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
Memorials may be left to the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center or St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
