Harold “Shep” Simon, 86

Harold “Shep” Simon, 86, of Russia, died at 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011,  surrounded by his loving wife and eight children.

He was born on July 8, 1925,  in Russia, to Alfred L. and Christine (Monnier) Simon, and they preceded him in death.

On Nov. 20, 1948, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, he married Martha Bollheimer, and she survives him in Russia.

He is also survived by his eight children, Linda (Allie) Cordonnier of Russia, Dianne (Jim) Bitzer of Versailles, Ron (Laura) Simon of Russia, Barb (Jon) Meyer of Minster, Rick (Pat) Simon of Russia, Doug Simon (fiancé Paula Barlage) of Tipp City, Bob Simon of Russia and Jacqui (Steve) Rethman of Fort Loramie; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; five brothers and sisters-in-law; a special friend.

He was preceded in death by five siblings; 11 in-laws; one grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, with the Rev. Frank Amberger and the Rev. Robert Monnin officiating. Burial will follow at St. Remy Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Russia.

The family requests donations be made to  the Russia Fire Department or to the charity of the donor’s choice in Shep’s name.
