GOLF: Area golfers bow out at district tournaments


St. Marys Carter Bowman's strong sophomore season came to an end after he shot an 81 at the Division II district meet at Sycamore Springs on Thursday.

Bowman advanced from the Country Acres sectional a week ago.

Wauseon won the district title to advance to state with a team score of 335.  Bryan also advanced with a 337 score after winning a tiebreaker with Napoleon and Port Clinton.

The Division II state meet will be held on the Scarlet and Gray Courses in Columbus.


BOWLING GREEN — The Minster boys golf team along with individuals from New Knoxville and New Bremen competed at the Division III district tournament at Stone Ridge on Thursday.

The Wildcats finished 10th with a 347 team score.

John Burke led Minster with an 82. Xavier Francis carded an 86. Freddie Purdy shot an 88. Josh Tumbusch shot a 91.

New Bremen’s Darin Bergman advanced out of the sectional at Hawthorne Hills last Friday. Bergman shot an 86 on the Bowling Green course.

New Knoxville’s Tyler Shreve shot a 91.

Lima Central Catholic won the district title 10 shots clear of the field with a 308 team score to advance to state. Austin Goodridge’s 75 led LCC.

Kalida’s Neil Recker and Josh Brooks of Ashland Crestview each shot 74 for medalist honors.

Along with LCC, Ottawa Haills, Crestview and Van Buren advanced as teams to state at NorthStar Golf Resort in Sunbury.
