ATHENS — The Grand Lake Mariners are a game back in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League standings after they split their second doubleheader in as many days on Sunday.
On Sunday the twin bill was with the Southern Ohio Copperheads at Bob Wren Stadium.
Grand Lake overcame an early six-run deficit and scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to rally past the Copperheads, 7-6, in the nine-inning opener.
Southern Ohio scored a run in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to rally past the Mariners with an 8-4 seven-inning win in the second game.
CELINA — Grand Lake split a doubleheader on Saturday with the Stark County Terriers, with St. Marys Memorial grad Trevor Kill earning the win in the opener.
Grand Lake took the opener, 6-5, with a walk-off win on a Timm single that drove in Blanchard.
Kill, aa Southeast Missouri State pitcher, got the win on the mound in relief. Kill pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits.
Kill is 1-1 in three appearances for the Mariners.
Haen was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Timm was 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Stark County won the second game 3-1 in seven innings.
The Mariners will take their 5-3 record into Tuesday night’s home game against Licking County for a 7:15 p.m. first pitch at Jim Hoess Field in Celina. The Mariners will host the Lima Locos on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. and travel to Cincinnati on Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
