Gilbert F. “Bud” Ice, 96, of 06433 IOOF Road, Spencerville, died unexpectedly at 8:05 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, in the emergency department of St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born on Aug. 15, 1917, in St. Marys, the son of Gilbert and Florence (Croft) Ice.

He married Jeanette Roberts on Aug. 15, 1966, and she preceded him in death on June 11, 1993.

Bud is survived by his dearest, loyal friend, Frankie Sunderland of Spencerville and by her five children, Anna (Wallace) Vaughn of Indianapolis, Ind.; Martin (Dona) Sunderland of Lima; Mike (Vicki) Sunderland of Wapakoneta; Glen (Diana) Sunderland of Lima and Becky (Joe) Lammers of Spencerville; by Frankie’s 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one sister, Izetta Fulton, of St. Marys, and by his stepgrandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Kramer; Staci (Bob) Bond; Jeremy (Tami) Rable; Brad (Kim) Rable; by six stepgreat-grandchildren. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Connie (Dwight) Strasburg of Celina.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his siblings, Denzil Ice, Roselda Ice, Clarabelle Zwiebel, Betty Finke, Virginia Heintz and Donald Ice.

Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served three years during World War II, mainly in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He retired from West Ohio Gas Company after 33 years of service and he also retired from Schaff Auto Sales in St. Marys.

He was a life member of American Legion Post 323, VFW Post 9289 and Eagles Lodges 767 and 691.

Private burial rites will be held for Bud.
