NEW BREMEN — The giant pumpkins will return to New Bremen this weekend for an annual fall festival.
Pumpkinfest will run Friday and Saturday at Crown Pavilion, and this year’s festival will feature a slew of pumpkin-themed activities and a new showcase. Throughout the festival, a slew of pumpkin food items will be available.
“They have the pumpkin pancake breakfast, pumpkin brats, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin ale,” Southwestern Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce Director Scott Frey told The Evening Leader.
Music dominates the schedule Friday night, with open music at 6 p.m., Cottonwood Band at 8 p.m. and local kids bands at 11 p.m. Festivities kick off at 7 a.m. Saturday with the pumpkin pancake breakfast and registration for the 5K at 7:30 a.m. Pumpkinfest’s newest addition kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“The big thing around Pumpkinfest this year is the Artisan Showcase,” Frey said, noting the showcase will focus on custom-made artwork, including jewelry, stained glass, photography and crocheting, among others. “It’s more of an arts feel than just a crafts feel.”
From noon to 2 p.m., Danny Schneible will provide music at the showcase, and from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Cinder Home will provide music.
“There will be a wine garden and there will be live music during the showcase as well,” Frey said.
Two Pumpkinfest favorites are slated to return — the Pie Bake-off at noon and the Pie Eating Contest at 6:30 p.m.
“There will be a pumpkin pie eating contest and there will be a pumpkin pie bake-off,” he said. “They usually have a lot of folks come out for that.”
The Sailboat Regatta will also be held at noon at Bunker Hill. Frey noted there are concerns about this year’s regatta because of the lack of rain the region had this year.
“They’re concerned about having enough giant pumpkins because of the dry weather,” he said. “It was such a dry summer that they’re worried about having enough giant pumpkins to bring in.”
The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off starts at 1 p.m., and the Pumpkinfest Awards will be handed out at 2:30 p.m. Saturday night entertainment includes Brother Believe Me at 5 p.m. and EZ Rider at 8:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of this year’s Pumpkinfest, visit Auglaize.org.
