George Binkley, 65, of Spencerville, died in his sleep on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at his residence following a short illness.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1948, in Lima, a son of Keith H. and Virginia E. Schiffer Binkley, who are deceased. His stepfather Tom Gaskill survives in Spencerville.
He was previously married to Ruth Ann Jacks, who is deceased.
On March 10, 1984, he married Carla J. Hawk Goetz, who survives, along with six children; Mike Binkley, of Venedocia; Linda (Tom) Goffe of Gadston, Ala.; Melissa (Stuart Cameron) Goetz, of Spencerville; Shelley Goetz, of New Market, Tenn.; Jon (Cheryl) Goetz and Jayme Goetz, both of Spencerville; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild; two brothers, Mark (Schako) Binkley, of Seattle, Wash.; and Paul (Cathy) Binkley, of Spencerville.
Greg was a 1967 graduate of Spencerville High School and worked 39 years at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys as a machine operator, retiring in 2007.
He was a long time member and past president/trustee of the Spencerville Invincible Fire Company and was a member of the Bowersock Bros., VFW Post 6772 Mens Auxiliary in Spencerville.
He enjoyed slow cruising his hometown of Spencerville in his truck and talking to his friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with the Rev. Tom Shobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Invincible Fire Company or to the VFW Men’s Auxiliary.
