ST. MARYS — Area families packed the hallways of St. Marys Primary School Saturday night for an annual spring festival.

The St. Marys PTO’s eighth annual Spring Fun Fest kicked off at 4 p.m. and ran to 8 p.m., featuring a variety of games, prizes and food. Kids lined up outside of classrooms, waiting to play the more than 20 games at the festival, including staples like the Tunnel of Terror, Just Dance and the cake walk. Attendees also enjoyed face painting, prizes and a variety of snacks, including pizza, popcorn and cotton candy.

St. Marys PTO President Angie Koverman said the annual event drew a good crowd.

“It’s going really smoothly,” she said. “We’ve had a good, steady crowd.”

She noted the cake wheel, Just Dance, the Tunnel of Terror and Oreo stacking were consistently busy throughout the night. The cake wheel, Koverman said, was stocked with a variety of baked goods, including cookies, brownies, cakes and cupcakes.

“They were all donated by the parents and the staff,” Koverman said.

Koverman said the event was made possible through the help from approximately 80 sponsors and volunteer help.

“We’d like to thank all of our sponsors and thank our volunteers, parents and teachers,” she said.

Spring Fun Fest, she said, is a PTO fundraiser.

“This is one of PTO’s biggest fundraisers,” Koverman said. “Everything we make tonight (Saturday night) goes right back toward the school.”

She noted that the PTO helps fund several student activities, including a field day and the COSI program among a slew of others.

“This year we bought a computer for the primary school and we’re hoping to get one for the intermediate school as well,” Koverman said.

She noted that the students and staff have enjoyed having the addition this year.

“It’s worked out really well for the primary school,” she said.
