Full Busing Could Come Back

August 28, 2013

ST. MARYS — Members of the St. Marys Board of Education could vote to reinstate full busing during their Sept. 11 regular meeting following information provided during a work session Tuesday night.

Senior Transportation Coordinator for the Ohio School Boards Association Pete Japikse spoke to the St. Marys City School Board Tuesday evening about transportation funding for the district for the 2014-2015 school year during a work session.

The state bases its funding awarded to each district on complicated formulas, calculations and streams of data, such as the number of students who ride on each bus and the daily miles each bus travels during one designated week during the month of October. The district will receive more funding if it reinstates full service busing for its students, but how much more is yet to be determined.
