Division III, Region 10 — Elida 24, DeSales 21
CLAYTON — Elida kicker Nathan Jenkins booted a 27-yard field goal as time expired to give Elida the 24-21 win over Columbus DeSales in a Division III Regional Semifinal at Northmont on Friday night.
Elida quarterback Reggie McAdams went 21-of-44 for 303 yards passing.
Elida plays Columbus Eastmoor Academy next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at a location to be announced on Sunday afternoon.
Division II, Region 8 — Trotwood-Madison 27, Wapakoneta 6
PIQUA — One of the greatest seasons in Wapakoneta football history came to a conclusion Friday night as the Trotwood-Madison Rams handed the Redskins a 27-6 defeat in a Division II regional semifinal at Piqua’s Alexander Field.
Wapak ends its season with a 10-2 record. The 2011 Redskins were just the third team in school history to win 10 games and the second to win a playoff game.
Trotwood Madison head coach and former Chicago Bear Maurice Douglass didn’t have much sympathy.
“We should have beat them by more,”Douglass said. “I’ll just leave it at that. Our guys came out and overcame the adversity they had on the field. They did a good job. All I care about is the left-hand side [of the scoreboard]. If it’s 1 or if it’s 100, as long as we’re going on.
The Rams gained 431 total yards of offense — 219 on the ground and 212 through the air.
Junior running back Israel Green led the way with 152 yards on just 14 carries (10.9 per carry) with a 46-yard touchdown run.
Despite giving up 431 yards, the Wapak defense only allowed three scores, and one of those came after a Trotwood interception gave the Rams the ball at the Redskins’ 14 yard line. Trotwood’s fourth score came on a 75-yard interception return by linebacker Mike McCray.
“Physically, up front, we never did get a push,” Wapakoneta head coach Doug Frye said. “We never did get what we would call a ‘hat-hanger’ play, something that we could keep coming back to. You need a play like that against anyone. We really had a lot of difficulty getting to the perimeter on a regular basis.”
Senior running back Connor Pickens gave Wapak its lone score with a five-yard run with 1:49 to play. Pickens finished the night with 117 yards and a touchdown.
Division V, Region 20 — Coldwater 43, Versailles 0
DAYTON — The perfect half.
Coldwater wide receiver and defensive back Caleb Siefring and the Cavaliers pulled it off during a 43-0 whitewashing of Versailles in a Division V regional semifinal at Welcome Stadium in Dayton on Friday night.
All four passes Siefring caught in the first quarter went for touchdowns to stun Versailles, and then Siefring returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown to complete a first half in which he single-handedly outscored Versailles, 30-0.
"They like to play man-to-man and sometimes man-free and I guess I was lucky enough to get free from them and score some touchdowns," Siefring said.
Siefring finished the game with those four catches for 175 yards and four touchdowns. He had two interceptions (including the one he returned for the touchdown), as well.
Coldwater led 43-0 at the half and milked the clock in the second half against a Versaille team that lost starting quarterback Nick Campbell to a head injury early in the game.
Coldwater junior quarterback Austin Bruns was nearly flawless, going 10-of-14 for 255 yards and four touchdowns. He threw one interception.
