KENTON 48, ST. MARYS 40

KENTON — Kenton dominated the fourth quarter to rally past St. Marys 48-40 on Friday night in a Western Buckeye League opener to stay unbeaten while denying the Roughriders their first win of the season.

St. Marys led 35-31 after three quarters in a halfcourt battle before Kenton outscored the Roughriders 17-5 in the fourth quarter.

St. Marys senior Garet Fledderjohann led all scorers with 18 points.

Quinn Zaerr added 11 points for the Riders with a pair of 3-pointers.

St. Marys knocked down seven treys in the game, accounting for 21 of its 40 points from beyond the arc.

NEW BREMEN 48, PARKWAY 20

NEW BREMEN — It was defense and rebounding that gave the New Bremen Cardinals basketball team their first Midwest Athletic Conference win. The Cardinals jumped out to a big early lead and defeated the Parkway Panthers, 48-20, on Friday night.

New Bremen hit the boards hard with 37 boards led by Justin Heitkamp with nine rebounds and nine points. Ben Homan had six boards and six points. The Cardinals had 20 offensive boards in the game.

Carson Manger led New Bremen with 10 points.

ST. HENRY 65, MINSTER 43

 

ST. HENRY — The Minster Wildcats basketball team opened Midwest Athletic Conference action Friday night at St. Henry. The Redskins led wire-to-wire in the 65-43 victory in a match-up of unbeatens.

Minster was led by Devon Poeppelman with 13 points. Andrew Knapke and Vince Brown both finished with six points.

VERSAILLES 65, NEW KNOXVILLE 50

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville matched the offensive firepower of Versailles for a quarter, but staying with the size and athleticism of the Tigers for a full four quarters proved to be too much for the Rangers.

Versailles continued its early-season offensive tear and topped the Rangers 65-50 on Friday night at The Barn.

Versailles’ Kyle Ahrens led all scorers with 19 points with a powerful combination of moves to the rim and a shooting range that began just inside the half court line. Chad Winner added 16 points.

Jake Allen paced the Rangers with 15 points. Isaac Kuntz added 12 points on four 3-pointers for New Knoxville.
