Frederick J. Cook, 79

Frederick J. Cook, 79, of 1023 S. Wayne St., St. Marys, died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

He was born on Feb. 16, 1932, in Auglaize County, to Hugh and Gertrude (Schneider) Cook, and they preceded him in death.

On July 3, 1952, in St. Marys, he married Patricia Ann Wurster, and she survives.

He is also survived by three sons, Mark (Mary) Cook of Springboro, Dennis (Barb) Cook of St. Marys and Dan (Robin) Cook of St. Marys; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Richard Cook of Wapakoneta; two sisters, Kathryn (Perry) McBride of St. Marys and Shirley (Ed) Springer of Wapakoneta.

He was a 1950 graduate of New Knoxville High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.

He retired from the Ford Motor Co. – Lima Engine Plant, where he worked as a machinist. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, both in St. Marys. He had also served on the former auxiliary unit of the St. Marys Police Department.

His favorite pastimes included fishing, riding on his tractor and working on all things mechanical.

Rites are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel), St. Marys, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial, with full graveside military honors, will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
