FOOTBALL: St. Henry upsets No. 6 Minster, 35-21

ST HENRY — What started to look like a blowout when the Minster Wildcats scored twice in the first six minutes of the game, turned into something else altogether.

St. Henry came back and won a Midwest Athletic Conference 35-21 victory.

“We stuck to the plan and give credit to our kids for not folding, they could have easily folded there at 14-0 with Minster having all the momentum,” said St. Henry coach Jeff Starkey. “It was great by our kids just hanging in there.”

“We played a very good football team and they did a great job tonight,” said Minster coach Nate Moore. “I mean you got to give them all the credit in the world. They played a great game and came out on top.”

It took just two and a half minutes for the Minster Wildcats to score their first touchdown. Korey Shultz ran a 13-yard touchdown from the 14-yard line into the endzone.

Minster led  7-0 at the 8:30 mark of the first quarter.

Shultz ran in a 54-yard touchdwon run to give the Wildcats a 14-0 lead.

St. Henry answered back. Matt Osterholt rushed for a 9-yard touchdown and quarterback Kyle Stahl’s touchdown pass to Jordan Bender tied the game 14-14 at the 4:17 mark of the second quarter.

Stahl hit Kyle Schwiterman for a six-yard touchdownsas St. Henry wento the half up 20-14.

A three-yard Stahl touchdown run and two-point conversion gave the Redskins a 28-14 lead.

Minster got to within a single score for the final time on the night when Adam Niemeyer hit Devon Poeppelman with a 26-yard touchdown.

The Wildcats would get no closer. Stahl hit Bender witha nine-yard touchdown pass with 4:58 left.

The Redskins improve to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the MAC while Minster fell to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the conference.
