NEW BREMEN – For the first time in a year and a half the New Bremen football team is able to celebrate a victory.

The Cardinals scored  touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters to defeat the Parkway Panthers 13-6 in front of a homecoming crowd to snap a 15-game losing streak that dated back to the 2010 season.

Tristin Hoffmaster's fourth-quarter six-yard touchdown run proved to be the game winner for the Cardinals.

New Bremen's other score came on a Garrett Westerbeck to Justin Heitkamp nine-yard touchdown pass.

Westerbeck led New Bremen with 86 yards rushing, as the Cardinals rushed for 286 yards.

The Cardinals held the Panthers to only 31 rushing yards and 243 yards passing.

“We are pretty athletic,” New Bremen head coach Jason McGaharan said. “We said we were not going to drop into a zone and we stayed in man the entire night. I take pride in our conditioning and athleticism and we stuck with the plan.”

New Bremen (1-3, 1-1) will travel to St. Henry next Friday at 7:30.
