DELPHOS — The New Bremen Cardinals had the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays right where they wanted them at halftime, leading 3-0.
But the Blue Jays came back with 34 unanswered points in the second half to beat the Cardinals 34-3 Friday night at Stadium Park in Delphos.

“It was a tale of two halves,” Cardinals head coach Jason McGaharan said. “We started off with the opening kickoff of the second half when the ball bounced off our player and went out of bounds at the four. You might as well call that a turnover and the next two possessions ended in turnovers.”
Trey Naylor kicked a 25-yard field goal to make the score 3-0 with 4:57 left in the first quarter.
In the third quarter the Cardinals received the opening kickoff, but the ball hit one of the Cardinals receivers and went out of bounds at the 4. They only moved out to the 11 before punting that gave the Jays the ball at the Cardinals 41 with 10:19 left.
It only took three plays for Delphos to take the lead. After a 15-yard pass completion from Mark Boggs to Jake Hays, Luke MacLennan went the final 18 yards for the touchdown. The kick by Andrew Metzger made the score 7-3 with 8:46 left.
After the kickoff, three plays later Westerbeck threw a pass that was intercepted by Metzger at the Cardinals 39 with 7:15 left. Six plays later Boggs went in from the one for a touchdown. The kick made the score 14-3 with 3:58 left.
Delphos forced a punt, but the Cardinals got the ball back on an interception by Carson Manger at the 13, but New Bremen gave the ball right back on the next play on a fumble at the 10. Two plays later Tyler Jettinghoff scored the first of his two touchdowns with a one yard run. The extra point kick was blocked making the score 20-3 with 41 seconds left in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Jettinghoff scored on a five yard run and Troy Warnecke scored on a one yard touchdown run to make the final score 34-3.
The Cardinals (2-7, 2-5) will conclude the regular season by entertaining Marion Local next Friday, while Delphos (6-3, 5-2) will travel to Minster.
