ST. MARYS — Fire crews from two local departments helped battle a garage fire on Oliver Street Sunday night.
The St. Marys Fire Department received a phone call at 7:58 p.m. Sunday reporting a garage fire at 809 Oliver St. When crews arrived, the garage was engulfed in flames and threatened to spread to the main structure.
“We had a hose around the back of the house to the garage and one through the house to contain the fire to the garage,” St. Marys Fire Chief Joey Weaver said. “We did have to ventilate the structure so we had to cut a few holes in the roof and tear some ceiling material down to access the fire.”
St. Marys Township provided mutual aid at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“We were having trouble that evening determining what caused it,” Weaver said. “We have a good idea of where, but I called in the state fire marshal to help us determine the cause. It’s not suspicious, but we’d like to have a cause on it.”
Weaver said all occupants made it out of the home safely and no firefighters were injured.
Crews cleared the scene at 10:20 p.m.
