Fatal Crash In Mercer County

CELINA — Deputies in Mercer County are investigating a fatal collision that took place this morning.

At approximately 6:59 a.m. today, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office received a call from a person, who was driving a hydraulic crane on Ohio 29 and Harris Road, reporting his vehicle was struck in the rear.

In a news release, Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey said the investigation shows that a crane driven by Bryan Hirschfeld, 62, of 8259 Mercer-Auglaize County Road stopped at the southbound stop sign on Harris Road, and pulled onto westbound Ohio 29.  The investigation further shows that a westbound 2003 Honda driven by Heather McCormick, 40, of 7495 Staeger Road, Celina, struck the rear of the crane.  McCormick was pronounced deceased at the scene by Mercer County Coroner Timothy Heinrichs.  
The accident remains under investigation. Deputies at the scene were assisted by the Celina Fire Department, Celina EMS and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
