Evelyn R. Burger, 87, of 808 Hackney St. in St. Marys, died 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at her residence.

She was born on Aug. 5, 1926, in Celina, to Harold and Margaret (Lehman) Bender.

On Dec. 20, 1947, in Celina, she married Leo “Jack” Burger, who died on Oct. 25, 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Ric Findley) Shoffner  of St. Marys and Karen (Dan) Cable  of St. Marys; a son, Michael Burger  of St. Marys; five grandchildren, Dawn Hammock, Kelly Pape, David Shoffner, Chad Bonifas and Keri Stammen; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley (Mick) Edmiston  of New Haven, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Margaret Bender; husband Leo “Jack” Burger; son-in-law Gene Shoffner; brother Robert Bender; nephew Robert Bender Jr.

She attended Celina schools. She was a homemaker and had been employed at Mersman Corp. in Celina and St. Marys Cotton Mill and Vanderhorst Cannery Co., both in St. Marys.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in St. Marys.

Her favorite pastimes included baking, playing cards with friends and following NASCAR racing.

Rites are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, 1505 Celina Road, Ohio 703 West Chapel, in St. Marys, the Rev. Bill Maki officiating. Private family burial will take place at Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton.

Visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the funeral home.
