Elmer H. Will, 88, of 15 N. Jefferson St., New Bremen, died at 5:39 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at the St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Carthagena. He was the son of Ferd D. and Ida F. (Kaup) Will.
On Aug. 29, 1953, he married Lela J. Bauer who survives in Minster. He is also survived by his daughter, Peggy (Mark) Kitzmiller of New Bremen; granddaughters, Amberly (Ryan) Tinnerman of New Bremen and Melissa (Brian) Brussell of Minster; his greatgrandchildren, Brennan, McKenna, Grayson and Bennett Tinnerman; his brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Linda Will of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and his sisters-in-law, Theresa Will of Minster, Marie Will of New Bremen and Doris Will of Fort Wayne, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Wilbert, Louis and Donald Will.
Mr. Will was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He served with the U.S. Army during the World War II European Theater Campaign with the 749th Tank Battalion. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Recipient. He retired from the former Landmark Grain Elevator in New Bremen. Elmer was a lifelong caretaker for his wife; he enjoyed going to auctions and playing with and spending time with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will be in the German Protestant Cemetery near New Bremen. Calling hours will be on from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church memorial fund or to the St. Rita’s Hospice, Lima.
