Elizabeth J. “Betty” Schmidt, 83, of Mendon, died on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at her residence.

She was born on Oct. 24, 1928, in Geneva, Ind., to Glen and Hazel (Morgan) Grogg, and they preceded her in death.

On Sept. 3, 1988, she married Bennett “Ben” Schmidt, and he survives.

She is also survived by two sons, Steven (Gilda) Teeple of Valparaiso, Ind., and Mark (Evelyn) Teeple of Angola, Ind.; two daughters, Diana (Robert) Fields of Portland, Ind., and Betty Lawrence (Randy Petit) of Celina; three stepsons, Roger (Sherry) Schmidt of Columbus, Kevin (Heather) Schmidt of Celina and Mike Schmidt of Lima; two stepdaughters, Lisa (Mark) Jones of Mount Vernon and Lori Huffman (Brad Weyandt) of Mendon; two brothers; two sisters; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; 10 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Keith Teeple and Edward L. Brown; three sons, Roger Teeple, Larry Teeple and Bruce Teeple; two brothers; two sisters; two grandchildren; a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at W.H. Dick & Sons - Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, with the Rev. Les Schmidt officiating.

Burial will be held in Mendon Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and one hour before services on Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to State of the Heart Hospice.
