Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Backs) Nelson, 62

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Backs) Nelson, 62, of Union, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013.

She had worked for many years in customer service with U.S. Airways. She was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration in West Milton. Betty loved the arts, theater and traveling. She had an unconditional love and made people, especially children feel special. Betty will be remembered for her hard work, her love of jewelry and making jewelry and a laugh and a twinkle in her eye that will remain in our hearts forever. 

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard “Pat” Nelson, sons Robert Nelson of Union, Bradley (Lynn) Nelson of Colorado, mother Alfrieda (Menker) Backs of St. Marys, siblings Dennis Backs of Indiana, Diana (Mike) Jacob of Indiana, Dorothy (Joe) Morgan of Wapakoneta, Barb (Steve) Yohler of Pennsylvania, Mary Lou (Ralph) Angstmann of St. Marys, Donna (Bob) Kantner of St. Marys, Sarah (Steve) Katterheinrich of St. Marys, Ed Backs of St. Marys, brother-in-law Chris Botkin of St. Marys, grandchildren Ricky, David, Nikki, Sierra and Ronan and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald C. Backs and sister, Marjorie Botkin. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Church of the Transfiguration, 972 S. Miami St., West Milton, the Rev. John MacQuarrie officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
