Elden L. “Red” Stolzenburg, 87

Elden L. “Red” Stolzenburg, 87, of St. Marys, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 9:44 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, St. Marys.  

He was born on April 11, 1927, in Wapakoneta, the son of Henry and Alpha (Myers) Stolzenburg, who preceded him in death.  

On June 19, 1947, he married Mary Fogt, and she died on Jan. 8, 2002.  

He later married Carol McDonald, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children, Linda (Mick) Kramer of Botkins; Eldon (Connie) Stolzenburg and Robert (Marie) Stolzenburg, both of St. Marys; three stepchildren, Roxann (James) Lengerich of St. Marys; Ron (Julie) Rupert of Whitesboro, Texas; and Rus (Deb) Rupert of Wapakoneta; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren and two brothers, Don (Adella) Stolzenburg of Wapakoneta and Larry (Roberta) Stolzenburg of Wapakoneta.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, a brother, Vernon, and a sister, Bernice Thomas.

Red retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 38 of service.

He served during World War II with the U.S. Army.

He was also a life member of the Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445.  

He loved writing poetry and had several of his poems published. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State University Buckeyes.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home, State Route 501, Wapakoneta.  

Burial is to follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta VFW Post 8445.  

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the American Kidney Foundation.
