Edna M. Prenger, 91, of Minster, died shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at Versailles Health Care Center, where she had been a resident since April 1, 2007. She had been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's since 2005.
She was born on Jan. 7, 1923, near St Henry, the daughter of the late Urban and Augusta (Muhlenkamp) Link.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Marsha K. Scott of Statesville, N.C.; her son, Richard "Rick" (Deborah) Meyer of Minster; three grandchildren, Billy W. (Brandy) Scott of Statesville, N.C.; Eric A. Meyer of Fairfield and Lindsay C. (Sean) Hunter of Cincinnati; seven great-grandchildren, Braden; Bailey; Caleb; Luke; Hannah; Greta and Elsa; her brother, Ralph (Esther) Link of Dayton and her sister, Bernice (Charles) Stacey of Flemingsburg, Ky.
Edna was preceded in death by her siblings, Melvin C. Link, Viola Leugers, Hulda Feltz, and Eileen H. Ranly.
Also proceeding her in death was her first husband, Arthur L. Meyer, who died on July 31, 1988. They were married on Sept. 4, 1943. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Leo B. Prenger, who died on Sept. 1, 2007. They were married on March 10, 1990.
Edna also had a stepmother, Celesta M. (Fullenkamp) Link from her father’s second marriage, who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1994.
Edna operated her women’s hairstyling business, “Edna’s Beauty Shop,” in Minster, from 1961 until 1989, when she retired. She was a member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Minster and was a past charter member of the Minster Eagles 1391 Auxiliary.
She was an avid golfer in the Minster Arrowhead Park G.C. women’s golf league, and she also enjoyed the competition and friendship with her ladies bridge club. She participated in the women’s Tuesday night bowling league at Community Lanes in Minster until she was 83 years old. Edna’s greatest love in life was to sing and go to dances, and she always kept the residents of Versailles Health Care Center entertained with her singing.
Friends and relatives are welcome to extend their condolences from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the N. J. Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster.
A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, the Rev. Rick Nieberding officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
