Earl V. Bricker, 92

Earl V. Bricker, 92, of Greenville, passed away at 6:02 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind.  

He was born on May 22, 1921, in Celina, the son of the late John K. and Mabel (Rush) Bricker.  

He served in the Pacific Theater in the U.S. Army during World War II as a cook and a medic. His combat service began in Australia, and he “island hopped” through New Guinea and the Philippines, and then ended as part of the occupation of Japan. He worked as a mechanic and press operator at Goodyear in St. Marys for 28 years, retiring in 1979. He then worked for 15 years at Plants of Ruskin in Florida as a master gardener.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a life member of DAV in Wapakoneta.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bevan and Lester Bricker.

He is survived by his wife,  Laura L. (Young) Bricker of Greenville, whom he married on April 7, 1947, daughters and son-in-law, Laura Lee Marshall of Omaha, Neb.; Sandra Jayne and Pete Wolf of Piqua; grandchildren Michael Nesbitt; Jill Nesbitt; Dannielle Marshall; Kylle Dietz; Chet Knous; and Lacie Schuller; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Donna Bricker of Celina; Carl and Barb Bricker of Greenville and Gene Bricker of Indianapolis, Ind.

Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, the Rev. Terry Haworth officiating.  

Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.  

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Disabled American Veterans, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
