Dorothy A. Miller, 90

Dorothy A. Miller, 90, of Sidney, formerly of New Knoxville, passed away at 2:40 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at  the Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1921, in Auglaize County, near Wapakoneta, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Julian) Katter, and they preceded her in death.

On Sept. 9, 1946, she married Willis H. Miller, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2001.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen (John) Vornholt of Sidney; her grandchildren, Wayne (Amanda) Vornholt of Lansing, Kan., Brad (Meredith) Vornholt of San Francisco, Calif., and Stephanie (Mark) Opitz of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her great grandchildren, Chloe Vornholt of Lansing, Kan., and Lauren and Chris Opitz of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her sister, Betty Bushong of Lima.  

She was preceded in death by her brother, Hugh Katter.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Christian Family Fellowship of Tipp City and of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville. She was a member of the Public Employee Retirees Inc. of Ohio and was active with the Sidney/Shelby Counties Blue Star Military Support Group.

She was a 1939 graduate of the former Blume High School of Wapakoneta and graduated from the Northwestern Business College of Lima. She retired in 1984 from the Auglaize County Courthouse, where she had been a court reporter.

During World War II, she was employed at the Lima Tank Plant, and she and her husband spent their years together working the land and caring for their animals on their family farm.

She was faithful to God and loved to read her Bible. She enjoyed planting and nurturing her flower gardens, spending time with and taking pictures of her family.

She was an avid letter writer and was dedicated to sending letters or cards each and every week to her family and friends.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, with the Rev. Tonya Shroyer officiating.

Burial will be in the Pilger Ruhe Cemetery in New Knoxville.  

Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dorothy Love Memorial Fund or to the Wilson Home Health and Hospice.
