Donald Lee Gehle, 75

Donald Lee Gehle, 75, of New Bremen, died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at his residence.  

He was born on June 12, 1938, in Coldwater, to the late Henry and Josephine (Ables) Gehle.  

On Aug. 24, 1963, he married Rita Ann Mueller, who died on June 13, 1979.  

On Nov. 23, 1990, he married Judy (Grogean) Schaefer, who survives in New Bremen.

Also surviving are his children Mary Jo (Mark) Dues of St Henry, Scott (Angie) Gehle of Fort Recovery and Beth Ann Gehle of St. Marys; daughter-in-law Deb (Terry) Wellman of Fort Recovery; stepchildren Chris (Mark) Sharp of New Bremen, Shelly (Richard) Rohr of New Bremen, Doug (Jody) Schaefer of New Bremen, Nikki (Jeff) Poeppleman of New Bremen and Natalie Rohr of New Bremen; 30 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Joan Bruns of Coldwater; Vera (Walt) Bills of Virginia; and brother-in-law Jim Nolan of Fort Wayne, Ind.

Along with his wife Rita and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Greg and Kevin Lee Gehle, and a sister Marge Nolan.  

Don was a member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer, where he was actively involved in the mission work of the church, especially with the work in Grenada.

He was a Coldwater High School graduate, and also graduated from the University of Dayton with an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering.  

He was a farmer for thirty years and formerly worked for Superior Agri Systems, Homan Equipment of Maria Stein, The NFO of Minster, and recently retired from Gehle Dairy Consultants.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating.  

Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Peter Cemetery, St. Peter.  

Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gilberg-Hartwig funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday at the church at which time the Rosary will be prayed.  

The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Grand Lake Hospice of St. Marys.
