Donald J. Vander Horst Sr., 87

c, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Lima Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 17, 1924, in Celina, to Herbert and Ruth (Desch) Vander Horst, and they preceded him in death.

On June 9, 1957, he married Bernice “Ben” Schmitz, and she preceded him in death on July 7.

He is survived by three sons, Donald Jr. (Jan) Vander Horst of Celina, Kurt (Nancy) Vander Horst of Celina, Jay (Annette) Vander Horst of Milford, Mich.; three daughters, Debby (Doug) Myers of Dublin, Karol Halm of Dublin and Judy (Mark) Sichterman of South Lebanon; a sister; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother; two sisters; a son-in-law.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina. Burial will be held at a later date.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Celina Athletic Booster Club or to Immaculate Conception Church.
